Artist's Comments

Road and field near my house.
This is my first attempt at HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photography. This image is comprised of 4 different exposures. Please give me your thoughts. I want to do this more now that I know how and I could use some advice. Thanks.

wow thank you

It's surprisingly simple to do. All you need to do is take the same exact photo at (at least) three different exposures and then use Photoshop to merge them together. Then just play with the combined exposure to get a really cool image like this. It's really fun to do because you can make interesting images out of the simplest photos.

Thank you. I only had to tweak the colors the slightest bit. They were pretty close to this after combining the exposures. Thanks for the :+fav: too! :)

Well the GIMP is a great Photoshop alternative. It's open source, so it's free and gets frequent updates. Has about 95% of the stuff that you find in PS and it works really well.
I don't believe it has a Merge to HDR feature built-in like PS but it has practically everything else so it's worth checking out.

looks nice! be careful about oversaturing in HDR, it looks like you got some funny effects on the road with very red highlights.

You are right, I've been meaning to redo this image for some time now. Too busy at the moment.

The problem lies with my monitor. I use a laptop and although it's a top of the line model, the screen is a bit lacking in contrast and color reproduction. So in order to make it look decent on this screen, I end up blowing out colors and highlights on the majority of good monitors. I usually double check on another screen but I just haven't had time to fix it yet.

Thanks.
